MasterCard said King’s role will “focus on growth within the
payments industry and creating a cashless society in the UK”,
highlighting the strategic importance of emerging technologies such
as contactless and mobile.

“I’m excited to be joining MasterCard to lead
a key market at a time when our industry faces both great
opportunities and challenges. I’m looking forward to working with
the talented team in the UK to build on their achievements and to
deliver the next generation of safe, simple and smart payments that
make life easier for consumers,” King said.

Javier Perez, president of MasterCard Europe
said: “I’m delighted to welcome Marion to MasterCard at an exciting
time for the UK market. Her proven track record of transforming
businesses and driving growth will be invaluable as we continue to
build new partnerships and innovative technologies that transform
the way consumers pay in a world beyond cash.”

The news comes five months after King
announced her decision to step down from her role as CEO of ATM
network and ACH VocaLink. Prior to this, King held senior roles at
Reuters Group and Global FX Transaction Services.

King will take up the post on the
12th March 2012. MasterCard’s current UK and Ireland
president, Hany Fam, will be moving to a Europe-wide strategy
role.
