MasterCard’s DataCash is to expand its mobile solution across the UK by collaborating with mobile commerce provider MoPowered.

The partnership will see DataCash merchants using MoPowered’s Software-as-a-Service platform technology to create another point of sale for new and existing customers. Mobile websites will also be optimised so they are fully functional for consumers.

Dominic Keen, chief executive of MoPowered, said: "The UK’s number of mobile shoppers is growing at an incredible rate. As consumers become more comfortable and familiar with mobile, it’s crucial that merchants take advantage of the increasingly sophisticated and secure payment technologies available to them. Missing out on the revenue opportunities in the mobile space would be at the detriment of their business".

This collaboration coincides with the recent research conducted by Interactive Media in Retail Group that found mobile commerce grew by 254% year on year in 2011 and a further 300% in 2012.
