Online payment service provider Ogone has
acquired mobile payment firm Tunz.com, while partnering with IT
& media specialist Belgacom to expand its electronic and mobile
services.
The acquisition of Tunz.com provides the Ogone
platform with a regulated e-money institution, enabling the company
to offer an end-to-end mobile payment cross-border service. Ogone
already serves some 35,000 e-merchant clients, who will now be able
to handle cross border payments without opening of foreign accounts
or having to deal with different acquirers.
“Now is the time to invest in bullet proof
innovative mobile e-payment solutions. Our choice to acquire
Tunz.com was therefore a natural one, seeing that it has a solid
track record in the matter and it also provides one-stop solutions
for financial services,” Ogone chief executive Peter De Caluwe
said.
The deal has also been inked by Belgacom, who
previously owned a 40% stakes of Tunz.com, confirming the
pre-existent partnership with Ogone.
In accordance with the applicable legislation,
the deal will become effective upon approval by the National Bank
of Belgium.
