The Austrian cashless payment provider PayLife has selected VeriFone to upgrade its payments systems. The project is part of the company’s ambition to upgrade its entire point-of-service (POS) range to support NFC and contactless transactions.

The new VeriFone systems are also designed to meet the latest PCI PTS 3.0, ZKA, EMV and Austrian security requirements.

As part of the agreement VeriFone will provide its new VX 680 wireless device, the VX 825 PIN acceptance system and introduce several thousand NFC/contactless enabled QX 1000’s.

Robert Komatz, senior vice president of PayLife said: "VeriFone’s innovative, consumer-friendly payment solutions will meet our needs today and in future as we adapt to the fast evolving new era of NFC payments, including the very successful Austrian electronic purse, Quick."

PayLife is jointly owned by five of Austria’s major banks and provides card acceptance services to a range of companies across the retail environment. PayLife completed 29.2m transactions in 2011.
