Online payments company Ukash has finally
broken into the Brazilian market after it was forced to cease
activity due to ‘technical problems’ with issuing partners in the
Latin American country last year.
Brazilian consumers can now obtain vouchers
from Ukash’s Latin America website using local bank scheme Boleto
Bancario. Upon registering online, they can order the voucher and
retrieve it at “thousands of locations nationwide”.
In April 2010 Ukash’s issuing partner in
Brazil eBizznet, ran into problems when partnering with local banks
and companies to ‘soft-launch’ the product.
Ukash’s strategy for 2011 is to capitalise on
the growth of e-commerce in the region and its launch into
Argentina and Brazil is said to deliver just that.
Ukash vouchers are also available in
towns and cities across Argentina including Buenos Aires, Córdoba
and Mendoza. Vouchers will be issued in US dollars in denominations
of $20, $50 and $100 and paid for by Argentinean Pesos. They are
delivered to the consumer as a printed receipt and are redeemed at
participating merchant sites.
