Microsoft has partnered with payment processor WorldPay to deliver its alternative payments programme (APM) to consumers in China.
An agreement has been made between the two companies to let consumers in China purchase apps and games from the Windows Phone Store and Office subscriptions from O365.
WorldPay works closely with Chinese payment provider Alipay who has a 60% market share in e-commerce transactions in China. This was found in an analysis report conducted by Worldpay about the APM landscape.
More than a third of internet users regularly shop online in China with many preferring to use local payment providers.
Chief product officer at WorldPay, Phillip McGriskin, said: "eCommerce has removed geographical boundaries, opening up the opportunities for brands to sell to consumers regardless of country or origin."
"WorldPay’s partnership with leaders like Alipay and China UnionPay allows global brands such as Microsoft to maximise transaction success through truly global reach and acceptance."
