bitFlyer, a Japan-based bitcoin exchange, has confirmed that it will launch operations in the US by the fall of 2017.
The company has already received regulatory approval to operate in 34 US states. The new office is based in the financial district of San Francisco.
Initially, bitFlyer intends to target professional traders and institutions by offering BTC/USD trading and then move to support other trading pairs and products.
Commenting on the move, bitFlyer CEO Yuzo Kano said: “While bitFlyer, Inc. is headquartered in Japan, my vision was always to create a global company, and I am excited that the U.S. will be its first step toward global expansion. Bitcoin is a global currency, now our exchange will be global too.”
Established in 2014, bitFlyer offers virtual currency exchange in Japan and supports multiple virtual 1 currency trading pairs, including Ether and Bitcoin Cash.
