Zelle, a digital payments network operated by Early Warning, is set to launch a person-to-person (P2P) mobile payment app for both Android and iOS users.

The newly launched mobile app will enable users to make mobile payments through Visa and Mastercard debit card accounts, even if their bank is not part of the consortium of banks that backs Zelle.

The app, which will compete against services like Venmo and Square Cash, will also allow users to split payments.

Early Warning Services CEO Paul Finch said: “Together with our bank and credit union partners we set out to make it easy, fast, and safe for consumers to send and receive money from almost anyone.

“Our partners are revolutionizing banking, reducing friction from finance, and making it convenient to send money in the moment. The Zelle App is a perfect complement to the network banks and credit unions as it allows their customers to reach millions more with the power of Zelle.”
