WhatsApp has gradually started rolling out its digital payments service in India in beta for select Android smartphones and iPhones users.
Based on India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), WhatsApp Payments will allow users to send and receive money directly via the WhatsApp messenger.
Through WhatsApp Payments, the payment will go to users’ bank account and it does not require mobile wallets and other similar financial instruments to store the money.
Since WhatsApp payment option is still being launched, it is not available to all the users. Those who got the feature can introduce the same to the other users.
The UPI payment option is currently supports only peer to peer money transfer and does not support merchant transactions.
The Facebook-owned company said that the new users will have to link their individual accounts with the application. Also, the WhatsApp number and registered mobile number with the bank account must be the same.
