Tigo Pesa, Millico’s mobile financial service in Tanzania, has partnered with WorldRemit, a London-based online money transfer service, to provide international money transfers for the Tanzanian diaspora.
Through this partnership, Tanzanian diaspora will be able to directly send funds to families and friends back home via their smartphones, tablets and computers.
Tigo mobile financial services head Ruan Swanepoel said that Tigo Pesa is a common receive method for international remittances to Tanzania for WorldRemit customers.
According to World Bank’s data, the East African country received a total of $64m from Tanzanians living abroad in 2014.
WorldRemit international product development vice president Jeff Pietras said: "People around the globe can send money instantly to Tigo Pesa wallets with just a few clicks or taps on their smartphone and enjoy fair, transparent pricing."
Swanepoel added: "Working with WorldRemit is part of the company’s strategy to fully integrate Tigo Pesa to the international payment systems. WorldRemit provides not only increased transfer speed but also offers better rates as compared to other available money transfer services."
