Digital payments firm Stripe has announced plans to hire more than a hundred engineers in 2019 for its fifth engineering hub that will be remote.
Stripe head of engineering David Singleton said that the remote hub will be “coequal” with the firm’s physical hubs, which are located in Dublin, San Francisco, Seattle and Singapore.

According to Singleton, the move is in response to strong performance by the firm’s remote employees.
“Foundational elements of the Stripe technology stack, our products, our business, and our culture were contributed by remotes. We would be a greatly diminished company without them,” Singleton noted.
Initially, the company will hire remote engineers in North America.
The hiring programme in this region will commence with the US and Canada.
The programme will be later expanded to Europe and Asia.
Singleton further stated that Stripe’s Dublin and Singapore hubs are currently not adequately equipped to support such employees.
Besides, the payments firm intends to hire remote product managers, engineering managers, and technical programme managers later this year.
Plans are also on to hire remote staff in non-engineering roles.
In a blog post, Singleton said: “Our remotes keep us close to our customers, which is key to building great products.
“They are deeply embedded in the rhythms of their cities. They see how people purchase food differently in bodegas, konbini, and darshinis. They know why it is important to engineer robustness in the face of slow, unreliable internet connections.
“They have worked in and run businesses that don’t have access to global payments infrastructure.”
The latest announcement comes shortly after Stripe’s acquisition of Dublin-based Touchtech Payments.
