Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with contactless mobile card payment company Mobeewave, has launched an NFC-enabled contactless payment acceptance solution on mobile devices.

The two companies initially deployed the point-of-sale solution, dubbed Samsung POS, in Canada and plan to expand the solution globally in 2020.

The solution will allow merchants to make debit and credit payments by tapping contactless cards, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay wallets onto Samsung NFC-enabled devices without additional hardware.

Merchants who seek to accept mobile payments can download the Samsung POS app from the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store, and register for immediate use.

The two companies earlier trialled a pilot of the service in Canada which generated more than 10,000 downloads.

The new patented and scalable payment acceptance solution will allow the South Korean technology giant to provide a frictionless and cost-effective POS solution to global businesses.

Samsung Electronics VP and head of service operation group for mobile communications business Sunny Park said: “Mobeewave has passed numerous certification and security processes, to deliver a highly secure payment acceptance solution to merchants in a variety of verticals. Their proprietary technology allows us to launch this new solution on a global scale.”

Mobeewave’s payment processing platform, SDK and apps are the only mobile-based solution accepting Mastercard, Visa and Interac transaction in pilot in Canada.
