Europe’s payments industry saw a rise of 20% in overall deal activity during Q3 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 36 deals worth $1.7bn were announced for the region during Q3 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 30 deals.
Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in Q3 2020 with 19, representing a 52.8% share for the region.
In second place was M&A with 12 deals, followed by private equity deals with five transactions, respectively capturing a 33.3% and 13.9% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

The combined value of the top five payments deals stood at $1.59bn, against the overall value of $1.7bn recorded for the quarter.

1) BlackRock, Bonnier, HMI Capital, Merian Chrysalis InvestmentLimited, Northzone Ventures, Silver Lake Partners, TCV and GIC’s $650m private equity deal with Klarna Bank
2) The $581.21m acquisition of Comercia Global Payments Entidad de Pago by Global Payments
3) D1 Capital Partners’ $200m private equity deal with TransferWise
4) The $106m venture financing of Mollie by TCMI
5) Citi Ventures, HPE Growth Capital and Sprints Capital Management’s venture financing of PPRO Financial for $50m.
