UnionPay International, Koper Bank and Intesa Sanpaolo Card have joined forces to support acceptance of UnionPay cards at ATMs in Slovenia for the first time.
The deal will allow all UnionPay cards to be accepted at ATMs subordinate to Slovenian lender Koper Bank.
The bank will also realise UnionPay cards acceptance at the local merchants, particularly shopping malls and supermarkets.
Intesa Sanpaolo Card offers payment processing for nine banks, operating under the Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group in the Central and Eastern Europe. UnionPay International teamed up with Intesa Sanpaolo Card in January 2015, to allow acceptance of UnionPay cards at all banks operating under the Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group.
China UnionPay president Shi Wenchao said: "We are accelerating the expansion of UnionPay’s acceptance footprint in Central and Eastern Europe. This is the first time that we have cooperated with a local institution in Slovenia, and is a significant event in our expansion in the region.
"In the future, we will deepen our cooperation with Intesa Sanpaolo to realize full acceptance of UnionPay cards at all its ATMs and merchants in Central and Eastern Europe, and further discuss our partnership in local card issuing, online payment, contactless payment and mobile payment."
