Nepal-based Himalayan Bank (HBL) and UnionPay International, a subsidiary of China’s UnionPay, have launched the HBL-UnionPay International Prepaid Card.
HBL CEO Ashoke SJB Rana said that the bank will issue UnionPay-branded US dollar prepaid cards for the first time ever to Nepali citizens with travel needs to China and beyond.
"The HBL-UnionPay International Card can be used for a variety of purposes, including business, education, sight-seeing and medical treatment, among other purposes.
"Furthermore, HBL-UnionPay pre-paid card-holders will be eligible for more than 1,000 offers and specially curated experiences in more than 18 countries covering shopping, dining, entertainment and more."
Further, Rana said that the partnership between the two financial services providers will bring the financial comfort to a large number of Chinese tourists coming to Nepal through 80 branches, 1,300 POS machines and 1,400 SCT machines.
