US beauty chain Sally Beauty is reported to be the latest victim of hackers snatching card details from US retailers.
Security blogger Brian Krebs reported that a new batch of 282,000 stolen credit and debit card details went on sale on popular black market website Rescator on 2 March.
On his blog, KrebsOnSecurity, Krebs said three banks had told him that after buying some of their own customers’ cards back, they found that all the cards had been used at Sally Beauty stores during the last 10 days.
A spokeswoman for the store, Karen Fugate, said that although the store’s security had detected an intrusion around 24 February and had brought in Verizon Enterprise Solutions to help respond to the cyber threat, they had found no evidence that any data was stolen.
She said: "Since Verizon’s involvement, which has included a deconstruction of the methods used, an examination of network traffic, all our logs and all potentially accessed servers, we found no evidence that any data got out of our stores.
"But our investigation continues, of course with their assistance."
