O2, a UK-based mobile and broadband services provider, has decided to close its mobile wallet, O2 Wallet, about 18 months after the product’s launch.

Beginning 31 March 2014, customers will not be able to use O2 Wallet or O2 Money Account Card, O2 said in a statement.

O2’s decision to discontinue the mobile wallet service is part of its aim to offer customers with new and better ways to manage money.

The O2 wallet allows clients to make P2P payments, barcode searches, as well as check daily discounts from several retailers, cash and debit card onboarding.

It also included a Visa pre-paid card to facilitate online and high street shopping.
