Japan-based credit card firm Sumitomo Mitsui Card has partnered with US-based payment platforms provider Dynamics to launch a credit card with a locking capability.
Set to be released in the Japanese market this year, the card will feature touch-activated buttons to enter numbers, LED lights and LCD.
The touch buttons can be used by the customers to set a password that is to be entered for activating the card during each use.
Upon activation, the integrated LCD will display the card number, while the magnetic stripe and IC chip functions will remain active as long as the number is displayed.
Cardholders will be able to make both online and in-store payments at all merchants that accept Visa cards.
Sumitomo Mitsui Card executive officer Masao Kamino said: “Today we introduce the world’s most secure payment card planned for introduction into the Japanese market.
