VeriFone Systems has announced it has been hosting mobile payments for France’s national rail operator SNFC since April.
One thousand hand-held devices using the PAYware Wynid technology are being used to power on-board passenger ticket purchases.

By GlobalDataOver three months that number is set to increase to 12,000 devices which are expected to handle 1.65m payment transactions annually.
Conductors are able to accept domestic and international EMV card payments and process other functions on mobile handheld devices carrying the PAYware Wynid managed services platform.
Carole Morere, department director for trains information systems with SNCF, said: "VeriFone’s unique managed payment solution makes it possible for SNCF to further improve efficiency and productivity on our trains by adding on-board payment to our mobile solution."
