At the same time, they can use the Sylo app to digitally transfer the gift cards.

Users can view details such as balance and expiry date of the gift cards in their digital wallet on mobile phone.

Epay New Zealand country manager Roger Smith said: “Gift Station customers will be able to easily add their gift card to a digital wallet on their mobile and make payments using a QR code on Windcave and Verifone payment terminals across New Zealand.

“We see this as part of a growing shift from using physical cards and touching EFTPOS devices to a fully contactless experience.”

According to Centrapay, the tie-up will help sort out the most common problems linked to gift cards, namely lost, left at home, expiring, and unknown balance.

Centrapay CEO Jerome Faury said: “The fact that epay has selected Centrapay as its digital payment partner, shows that the company shares our vision for how businesses and consumers will connect, engage and pay in the future.”

Earlier this month, Amatil Xthe corporate venturing platform of Coca-Cola Amatil, acquired a minority stake in Centrapay.
