SIMalliance, a non-profit trade association for the management of secure mobile services, has announced plans to collaborate with The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) to promote global cooperation between the mobile and internet industries.
SIMalliance and IEEE-SA plan to endorse an interoperable ecosystem that will enable converged mobile and data services to continually evolve.
A panel discussion is due to take place on 20th May in Las Vegas. Industry experts are expected to address the technical challenges and market opportunities convergence creates. Key issues will involve levels of security and privacy for different applications, maintaining interoperability and expanding trusted networks for identity and authentication.
SIMalliance chairman Frédéric Vasnier said: "From a technical perspective, the growing interaction between internet and mobile technologies has given rise to a need for inter-industry cooperation and alignment on standardisation and security. Collaboration is essential to ensure the continued evolution of an open and interoperable ecosystem which takes into account the requirements of, and draws on best practice from, both industries".
