State Bank of India (SBI), in collaboration with the country’s flagship payments processor National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Japanese credit card firm JCB International (JCB) has introduced a new contactless debit card.

Launched on the RuPay network, the new ‘SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card’ has a dual interface feature that supports contact and contactless payments domestically and contact transactions abroad.

SBI chief general manager Vidya Krishnan said: “We believe the tap and pay technology on the Card will simplify the everyday purchases of customers with secure and fast contactless payments. With several attractive benefits and offers associated with this contactless Debit Card, we are hopeful that this Card would not only provide a rewarding shopping experience to the cardholders but also make their international travels worthwhile.”

The card enables transactions on ATMs & POS terminals worldwide under JCB network and online transactions at JCB partnered international e-commerce merchants.

It facilitates RuPay offline wallet based payments, enabling an additional payment mode within the card. One can load the offline wallet and use it in the country’s transit and retail transactions.

Moreover, users of the card can earn discounts and offers while making purchases at top brands in India and overseas.

Th cardholders will also gain access to JCB PLAZA Lounge in Bangkok (Thailand), Orchard Road (Singapore) and Paris (France), among others.

Notably, recently, Mastercard forged a partnership with SBI Cards & Payments Services, the credit card business of SBI, to launch contactless payments on the SBI Card mobile app.
