Mobile payment services provider Boloro Kuwait has completed a three-week pilot for mobile payments on buses.
Boloro Kuwait, owned and operated by Net2Text, offered the service to select prepaid customers through the mobile operator Zain.

After enabling Boloro on their phones by attaching a sticker, bus passengers pay for their fares by tapping the phone on a Bolero Android Reader. The bus fare is then deducted from their Zain Prepaid balance.
In the pilot, two bus companies – Kuwait Public Transport Company and CityGroup – installed Boloro on routes 23 and 13 respectively. After paying, customers receive an SMS receipt, which then serves as their bus ticket.
Khaldoun Bazzari, chief executive and president of Boloro Kuwait, said they had received positive feedback from participants in the pilot regarding the ease, convenience and speed in boarding and paying their bus fares.
He added: "We look forward to introducing new and easier ways of making payments in Kuwait."
Boloro hopes to extend to other areas, including paying for parking fees, at post offices, hotels, restaurants and healthcare providers.
