Transaction banking solution provider Fundtech unveiled its Mobile ACCESSplus platform following survey results revealing a high demand for corporate mobile banking.

Positioned as the first mobile corporate platform available in the industry, Fundtech claims the technology provides a new, untapped opportunity for banks.

“Nobody out there is doing this and we have been scratching our heads thinking ‘why is that?’” said Rhys Jones, head of innovation at Fundtech.

Three additional mobile modules have also been introduced that can be built onto the platform. They are:

  • Global CASHplus Mobile – an advanced cash and liquidity management system;
  • Accountis EIP Mobile –  an electronic invoice presentment system; and
  • Bacsactive-IP Mobile – a UK Bacs payment system.

US consultancy firm Aite Group and Fundtech surveyed 320 treasury executives around the world. The collaborative report, The Business Case for Offering Corporate Mobile Banking Services, showed over 40% of respondents described themselves as “likely” or “very likely” to use mobile corporate banking services to perform basic transactions  such as checking balances or transferring funds. Some 55% of treasurers expressed interest in performing more advanced functions such as approving transactions and initiating payments via a mobile device.

Nearly half (49%) of businesses that took part in the survey also said they are willing to pay for the convenience of mobile cash management capabilities. This highlights the opportunity for banks to generate fee-based revenue through mobile technology.

George Ravich, EVP and chief marketing officer of Fundtech, told CI he believes the numbers to be very strong for a product that doesn’t exist.

A UK-based global bank, which CI is not allowed to name, is poised to become Mobile ACCESSplus’ first client in the UK, and plans to deploy the Bacsactive-IP Mobile service to its clients early next year.

The application has been segmented in two ways by the mobile and tablet form factors. According to Jones, the tablet form will be more popular for data gathering and searching whereas mobile phones will be very useful for call to action processes.

Fundtech launched the Mobile ACCESSplus platform with the iPhone at the SIBOS conference in Amsterdam last week, and plans to launch with BlackBerry, Android and Windows 7 handsets during the early part of next year.
