One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, has introduced a feature that allows Paytm users to make international UPI payments.

The new functionality enables Indian travellers to make cashless transactions using their Paytm UPI app for shopping, dining, and local experiences while abroad.

This service is available at various destinations across the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal.

The process of setting up international UPI on the Paytm app is designed to be swift, with a one-time activation linked to the user’s bank account.

When a UPI-compatible QR code is scanned outside India, the app will automatically prompt for activation by facilitating access.

Users have the flexibility to set a usage period ranging from one to 90 days and can deactivate the service at any time.

This feature aims to prevent unintended payments to foreign merchants after returning to India, thereby enhancing security and control.

During the transaction process, the Paytm app displays the exact foreign exchange rates and any conversion fees charged by the user bank to ensure that users are informed about the costs associated with UPI international transactions before they confirm the payment.

Paytm spokesperson stated: “As the pioneer of mobile payments in India, we are consistently innovating to bring greater convenience to our users. With UPI International, we’re thrilled to extend this ease to Indian travellers, enabling them to make secure, cashless payments in countries like the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal.

“With the upcoming holiday season, we are sure that this launch will make foreign travel even more convenient for users. This expansion reflects our commitment to leveraging technology that empowers our users, wherever they are in the world.”

Additionally, Paytm has launched a UPI statement download feature, which allows users to obtain detailed records of their transactions in an easy-to-understand format.
