South Korea’s Naver Corp. has teamed up with WeChat Pay to expand its mobile payment and digital wallet Naver Pay across China, using QR codes, reported Korea Economic Daily Global.
With this move, Naver is said to become the first South Korean company to offer QR code-based payment and online transaction services with WeChat Pay, referred to as Weixin Pay, in China.
WeChat Pay, which is integrated into the WeChat app, has over 1.13 billion active users.
Naver Pay has been operational in China since September 2023, providing QR payment services through UnionPay and Alipay Plus.
To make a payment, users should press the QR payment camera button at the bottom centre of the Naver Pay app, scan the WeChat Pay QR code, input the payment amount, and tap the Pay button.
The payment is then deducted from the user’s Naver Pay points or balance.
