Swedish Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) firm Klarna has expanded its global partnership with payments platform Stripe.

This move allows businesses using the Stripe platform in 25 countries to ‘instantly’ integrate Klarna’s payment options.

The collaboration has doubled the number of merchants offering Klarna’s BNPL services, in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to previous quarters, the company said.

A recent study by Stripe highlighted that businesses implementing BNPL options such as Klarna have recorded revenue growth of up to 14%.

Stripe’s new “industry-first” feature allows businesses to conduct instant A/B testing of payment methods, including Klarna, without coding.

Merchants can directly measure the impact of Klarna on their sales compared to other payment methods.

Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes said: “At the core, Klarna is a global network connecting 85 million active consumers with retailers. The more retailers we add, the more consumers we attract and vice versa. The ambition is to make Klarna payments available everywhere, for everything, all the time.”

The initial partnership forged in 2021, which supports retailers globally in offering more flexible payment choices to their customers, thereby driving revenue growth.

According to CNBC, this deal is poised to enhance Klarna’s revenue, as the company has recently filed for an IPO confidentially. While Stripe is also considered as an IPO candidate, the company has indicated that it is not in a hurry to go public.

Commenting on the deal with CNBC, Stripe chief business officer Jeanne Grosser said: “We’ve seen BNPL volume grow 172% last year on Stripe, which is much faster than other mainstream payment methods” adding that the deal with Klarna was a “win-win” for both firms.

To CNBC Sykes stated: “This is really significant for Klarna.” highlighting the “substantial growth” in new merchants using Klarna since the updated integration with Stripe began in October.

Grosser added: “Stripe is now the easiest way for businesses to offer Klarna. Thanks to our partnership, businesses on Stripe will continue to grow their revenue and offer consumers more options in how they can pay.”
