Apple has expanded its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature to more European countries, offering a payment solution for merchants.

This service is now accessible in Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

Through collaborations with various payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks, Tap to Pay on iPhone allows businesses to process payments directly through their iPhones.

This system supports contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, without requiring additional hardware or payment terminals.

At the point of sale, customers can be asked to hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or other digital wallets near the merchant’s iPhone to complete the transaction.

The transaction is then securely completed using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

Apple has collaborated with Adyen to implement a range of payment platforms across these countries.

The list of payment partners also includes myPOS, Revolut, SumUp, Mollie, and Stripe, although their services may differ by country.

Adyen EMEA president Alexa von Bismarck said: “The in-store experience is still a crucial touchpoint for how consumers engage with brands in 2025. Tap To Pay on iPhone allows this moment to be as streamlined and easy for the shoppers as it is beneficial for the business. Consumers want to experience a brand with the touch and feel that only a store visit can offer, however, it is vital that the payment experience does not detract from this.”

The feature is compatible with contactless credit and debit cards from payment networks such as American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.
