Telecommunications giant Vodafone and Greece-based Alpha Bank have partnered with Visa Europe and First Data to launch a new mobile phone application for contactless payments, which is the first of its kind in the Greek market.
Called Tap ?n Pay, the new mobile wallet app will ensure a secure payment process, by taking advantage of new opportunities offered by the NFC technology.
The new app will require the use of a Vodafone mobile SIM card, on which the Alpha Bank Enter Visa debit card, will be stored.
Additionally, the Tap ‘n Pay app will enable contactless transactions in shops by debiting the bank account that is linked to the debit card.
According to Alpha Bank, Tap?n Pay will be launched as a pilot programme, offering an opportunity to selected users to publicise themselves with the application and all its benefits.
Alpha Bank consumer credit executive general manager, Leonidas Kasoumis, said: "The cooperation of Alpha Bank with Vodafone, along with the support of First Data and Visa in Greece, paves the way to developing a new ‘ecosystem’ for making mobile phone payments, which is expected to be the payment method of the future, both in the Greek and the global markets."
