The mobile payment platform LevelUp has
extended its Quick Response (QR) code payment app to mobiles
operating on the Windows platform.
The app allows users to link debit or credit
cards to their phones, and make in-store payments through a QR code
generated on their devices displays. The code can be scanned
by merchants using the same app to process transactions. The app
was initially available only for iPhone or Android handsets. It can
now also be downloaded on Windows operating devices and used
across 31 US towns stores.

LevelUp chief executive Seth Priebatsch said:
“With our user-base growing like crazy, bringing LevelUp to Windows
Phone was an obvious next step.”
LevelUp markets itself as an
“Interchange Zero” payment network, as no fees are applied to
transactions. The company runs co-marketed promotional campaigns
and retains 40% of the merchants’ intake deriving from them.
LevelUp is part of the US start-up SCVNGR, a
mobile location-based game provider. Earlier this year, LevelUp
raised over USD21 million in funding, with the venture
capital arm of Deutsche Telekom T-Ventures and Google Ventures
among the main investors.
