Payments giant PayPal has partnered with an on-demand car service to allow passengers to pay without their credit cards.
Uber, available in 22 countries, had previously only accepted credit cards and Google Wallet, but found this a drawback in some markets where neither option was widespread. PayPal payments can now be made through Uber’s iOS or Android app in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the US.

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said: "We are rolling out all over the world. We need to address the way people pay in different places."
The car-hailing app can pick up customers even if they don’t know where they are, by locating them through GPS. It accepts cards through Braintree, the payments platform acquired by PayPal in September.
To kick-start the new payment scheme, Uber passengers can get $15 off rides paid through PayPal until November 28.
