Smartphone transit ticketing launched in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian electronic payment systems provider
Touch’n Go Sdn Bhd (TNGSB) has announced plans to introduce NFC
smartphone apps to enable customers in Kuala Lumpur to pay for
public transport through their mobiles. The system will link phone
handsets to Touch’n Go prepaid transit card accounts. 

TNGSB is partnering with telecommunication
companies Maxis and CIMB for the pilot project, set to go live in
the next two months.

TNGSB  chief executive Abdul Karim said
the company has already invested over MYR500,000 (USD160,000) in
developing the service. The amount excluded investments by Maxis
and CIMB, he said.

“The company is targeting to sell 1.3 million
cards this year, a marginal increase from last year,” he said.
