POS manufacturer VeriFone has partnered with China Mobile and Bank of China on NFC payment and marketing services in Shen Yang, China.
Shen Yang Badatong E-Commerce will be equipping thousands of retail locations in the city with VeriFone NFC POS acceptance terminals. The project sees the first implementation of the company’s PAYMEDIA Mobile Marketing Platform (MMP), an end-to-end system that enables merchants and third parties to launch campaigns to mobile wallet subscribers.
The PAYMEDIA UAP allows mobile network operators and wallet providers to develop wallet acceptance applications that can be downloaded directly to a merchant’s POS system. Merchants can then connect to the apps using a cloud-based gateway.
Zvi Mitlanski, VeriFone Asia Pacific senior vice president, said: "This implementation demonstrates the potential of VeriFone’s Payments-as-a-Service vision and strategy, and provides Shen Yang with a complete infrastructure for provisioning, integrating and managing wallets and other mobile apps."
The Nilson Report ranked Verifone as the fourth largest POS terminal company in Asia/Pacific, with nearly one million units behind Ingenico, who sold the most terminals in the region.
