Payment processor Elavon has extended the capabilities of its mobile payments solution to the iPhone and iPad in the UK and Ireland.
The solution, known as MobileMerchant, turns mobile devices into payment terminals allowing small businesses to accept card payments.
MobileMerchant can be downloaded as an app onto Blackberry, Android, and now iPhone devices and is used with a chip and PIN card reader to carry out transactions.
Guy Harris, managing director for Europe at Elavon, said: "MobileMerchant is perfect for thousands of very small, often mobile, businesses that need an affordable and portable solution for payments."
"Not only does our solution enable mobile commerce but it has in-built EMV Chip and PIN security, making the acceptance of an electronic payment via a mobile device safe and effective," he concluded.
In May 2012, MobileMerchant for Blackberry and Android devices was rolled out in the UK, followed by its release in Ireland in October 2012.
