Square, a US-based mobile payments company started by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, has opened its Australian headquarters in Melbourne.
This is firm’s fourth global location after Japan, Canada and the US. The new office will be managed by Ben Pfisterer, a former NAB and Visa executive.

Square said it has chosen Melbourne due to its thriving small business community of merchants, as well as having a growing reputation as Australia’s technology hub.
The company added the local team will focus on supporting Australian SMB owners and entrepreneurs.
Square offers a free credit card reader that can be attached to mobile devices to accept credit card payments. Since its launch in 2009, the company has raised over $590m from investors.
"Leveraging our knowledge of the local market, and the growth of Square around the world, we are looking forward to deploying an exciting product road map in the future that will help to make commerce easier for Australian small-business owners," Pfisterer said.
