There are 7.1 million people employed in Guatemala, with an unemployment rate of 2.7% – 189,375 people.


Guatemala is the 195th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $93.1bn. Guatemala’s GDP has grown by 125% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 31% by 2025.

As of 2015 there were 366,674 students in tertiary education in Guatemala, with 1.2 million students in secondary and 2.4 million in primary education. Guatemala spent 3% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Guatemala ranked 96th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 98th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Guatemala finished 98th, after ranking 98th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $1.7bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $2.9bn in 2018.
