Mastercard has partnered with AirPlus International to launch a joint campaign for encouraging virtual payments by offering insights into virtual cards.

AirPlus delivers solutions for the day-to-day business travel management, and issues its AirPlus A.I.D.A. Virtual Card on the Mastercard network.

The Virtual Cards: Accepted! campaign will involve virtual payment experts from both AirPlus and Mastercard, who will provide clarity on virtual card usage to business travellers.

AirPlus International executive director of marketing Yaël Klein said: “Together with Mastercard we hope above all to get business travel service providers interested in the benefits of payment without a physical card.

“By accepting virtual payment solutions, the service providers can position themselves as a competent partner in the digital business environment and differentiate themselves from the competition.”

Mastercard senior vice-president of commercial & account-to-account products Bart Willaert said: “Virtual cards offer hotels faster payments and better cash flow compared to invoicing. For companies, virtual cards offer an efficient payment solution that can be used by employees, contractors and interviewees alike whilst providing richer data for ease of reconciliation.

“Mastercard’s virtual cards, such as the AirPlus A.I.D.A. Virtual Cards, offer optimum security to all parties since a unique card number is generated for each transaction, and never used again.”
