British convenience food retailer Co-operative Group (Co-op) has collaborated with ACI Worldwide to support the launch of its Pay-in-Aisle App.
The retailer will leverage Mobile Commerce SDK, part of ACI’s UP eCommerce Payments solution, to enable the launch.
With the new app, customers will be able to scan products on their own device as they shop and payments will be deducted from their Apple Pay or Google Pay accounts.
The app will be introduced at 30 Co-op outlets in England, Scotland, and Wales this month.
Co-op director of retail support Mark Pettigrew said: “Technology is bringing unprecedented levels of change to retailing, with speed and ease seen as key drivers for time-pressed consumers.
“We know that people adopt technology at different speeds, and while cash is here to stay, it is clear that it is playing a lesser role in society.
“Retailers need to adapt and be agile, and this app builds added choice and convenience into the retail experience.”
Co-op and ACI have been working together for many years.
The retailer already utilises the UP Merchant Payments solution for card processing.
Besides, Co-op manages a loyalty membership scheme that is supported by ACI’s cloud-based wallet service.
ACI vice president Andrew Quartermaine said: “Moreover, as security is top-of-mind for consumers and paramount for merchants, the Co-op’s customers’ data will be protected at all times with ACI’s technology, regardless of the payment method they are using.”
