Malaysian airline AirAsia has partnered with Hong Leong Bank (HLB) to launch a co-branded travel credit card. The product is aimed at casual travellers as well as frequent flyers.

The new AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Credit Card is available in Gold and Platinum variants. Cardholders will be able to earn BIG Points that can be redeemed for free flights.

Furthermore, the card will offer users additional exclusive privileges, including priority check-in and boarding.

BIG Loyalty programme enhanced with co-branded card

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said: “Today’s launch of the AirAsia Hong Leong credit card is part of our plan to transform BIG Loyalty from an airline loyalty programme into BIG Life, a travel and lifestyle business.

“These cards not only allow our BIG Members to earn BIG Points faster and elevate their travel experience, they also make the points more accessible. This is a key step in making BIG Points a widely used and valuable digital currency. Not just for flying but for every day use.”

The AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Credit Card has been initially launched in Philippines. The companies plan to expand the availability to Indonesia over the coming months.

Hong Leong Bank Group managing director and CEO Domenic Fuda noted that the new card addresses the frequency and cost consciousness aspects of Malaysian consumers.

Fuda added: “Data has shown that Malaysians are ranked amongst the global top 5 when it comes to flying. They take at least 5.5 average flights annually. A further 83% of them checking into flights online or via mobile for greater convenience.”
