
TV set-top-box (STB) provider Acer Laboratories (ALi) has announced that it has integrated security company Cryptology Research’s CryptoFirewall into its multimedia set-top-box and system-on-chip (SOC) products.
The CryptoFirewall core is an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) a customised product specific chip that provides a hardware base for other security applications. It is designed to protect cryptographic keys and computations even when other aspects of the security are compromised. The product is desined to be intergrated directly into the video decoding system-on-chips of the leading manufacturers from the set-top-box market.
Daniel Huang, ALi’s chief operating and technology officer, said: "Security is a critical requirement for digital entertainment systems and therefore is a key focus for ALi. ALi has been highly devoted to enhancing chipset security capabilities for the protection of content and pay TV assets."
