Alipay, the Chinese mobile payment platform operated by Ant Financial, has partnered with six mobile wallet providers in Europe to support QR payment interoperability.
The mobile wallets involved in the partnership are Austria’s Bluecode, Finland’s ePassi and Pivo, Oslo-based Vipps, Spain’s Momo and Portugal’s Pagaqui.
Together, these apps have five million users and more than 190,000 merchant partners.
The wallets will now utilise a QR code format offered by Alipay.
Ant Financial chairman and CEO Eric Jing said: “We feel honoured to help promote a smart lifestyle and digital experiences in Europe, while continuing to connect more merchants with more Chinese tourists.”
Under the alliance, users of one of the aforesaid wallets would be able to pay at merchants across Europe that accept the other wallets.

The technical services to support the integration process will be provided by ePassi and Bluecode.
Plans are on to eventually expand the service into more countries in Europe.
