A survey has found that 37% of Americans are more embarrassed about their credit card debt than their age, weight, credit score or bank balance.
The statistic is especially surprising because America was famously the world’s fattest country until July 2013, when the United Nations confirmed Mexico had a higher number of overweight people.

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling survey found that nearly 30% of US residents were most embarrassed about their credit score, while 12% were most embarrassed about their weight and 10% about their bank balance.
Gail Cunningham, NFCC spokesperson said: "Since consumers revealed that the two facts they’d be most embarrassed to admit are related to credit, it is obvious that they are not comfortable with how they are currently managing their money.
"The good news is that there are solutions available for those who want to take charge of their financial future. Since April is Financial Literacy Month, now is the ideal time for people to address their financial concerns."
The NFCC survey was conducted throughout March 2014 and was answered by 2,168 US individuals.
