American Express has upgraded and relaunched its 50-year old Green Card with new features and benefits focused on travel rewards.
The card, now called Green from Amex, is made using reclaimed plastic.
It offers 3X membership rewards on dining and travel. Cardholders will get reward points on transit, including flights, hotels, tours, car rentals, ride shares, buses, subways, and amextravel.com.
The Green from Amex card also comes with statement credits and zero foreign transaction fees. However, Amex increased the annual fee from $95 to $150.
American Express Global Premium Products & Benefits executive vice-president Rachel Stocks said: “The Green Card was introduced 50 years ago, to meet consumer needs as the travel industry took off.
“Today, we are reimagining this iconic card to once again meet the evolving needs of our card members and reward the areas they care about and regularly spend in – travel, transit and dining.”

By GlobalDataWith the new card, the company is also offering digital and lifestyle services.
A mobile assistant will be available in the American Express App to help customers in bookings, checking rewards balance or any account-related queries.
Cardholders will also be able to split their bill with other Venmo or PayPal users and earn rewards for the transaction. Besides, the card now offers payment and purchase flexibility.
Amex recorded a 6% rise year-over-year in net income to $1.76bn in the third quarter of this year. The rise is said to indicate higher cardmember spending, net interest income and card fees.
