Azerbaijani Transport Ministry is set to launch its new card payment system for public transport before the end of 2013.
Initially, the new card payment system was expected to enter into service in September in Baku.
Commenting on the introduction, Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, Public Relations Department head, Namig Hasanov was quoted by Trend as saying that the implementation was delayed due to issues with the importation of card reader validation, and with the process of synchronisation systems.
"Despite some delays, work continues according to plan. The first stage of implementation of the card payment collection system is planned before the end of this year," Hasanov added.
As part of the first stage of deployment, the Transport Ministry is planning to include 1,000 buses to support the new card system application.
Currently, more than 2500 buses operate in Baku, and the process of their coverage with the new system is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
