With the latest announcement, Popular has become the second financial institution in the US and the first in Puerto Rico to enable their credit cards for use in Cuba.
Cardholders can use their credit cards at over 11,000 authorised merchant terminals and ATMs across Cuba.
Popular president and COO Ignacio Alvarez said: “Popular is excited about this development.
“The ability to use these credit cards in Cuba will facilitate travel and promote the interaction between our clients in P.R. and the U.S. with the citizens of Cuba.”
Before visiting Cuba, BPPR and PCB MasterCard cardholders will have to obtain an active credit card and that they are travelling under one of the 12 categories approved by the US regulations.
