UK-based mobile commerce company Bango has teamed up with AE Tolls to enable American drivers transfer road toll charges on their monthly phone bills.
The service, called tapNpay, was launched with a US-based mobile operator providing another channel of payment traffic through the Bango Platform.

The collaboration taps untagged users whose details are not updated in motor vehicles database. It will enable toll agencies to offer drivers an accessible payment method, thereby lowering uncollected toll revenue.
Bango will utilise its Bango Boost technology to assess behaviour and identify avenues to boost growth in payments.
The technology leverages machine learning techniques to optimise conversion rates in mobile payments and minimising failed payment attempts.
Bango VP of payments Maria Vidondo said: “This new source of end user spend brings significantly different spending behaviour to the Bango Platform for analysis.
“Toll road mobile payments combine a unique mix of subscription type behaviour for regular journeys and high volume peaks during rush hours and events.
“Bango Boost has been helping operators increase spend in app stores for many years and now its machine learning capabilities will also help operators and AE Tolls to maximise revenue for this new type of payment traffic, by steering drivers to the best form of payment.”
According to IBTTA data, the US toll agencies generated more than $21bn in electronic toll revenue last year. Untagged users accounted nearly $6bn of the total amount.
