Banks in Karakalpakstan, an autonomous republic of Uzbekistan, are charging merchants around 10%-15% more surcharge on debit card payments, according to a report from Uznews.net.

Also, several debit cards, particularly cards from online banks, are not accepted in many stores due to unavailability of programmes required to connect to the banks.

The report also reveals that several shops in the country charge normal rates during inspections, and raise the prices soon after that.

In addition to high surcharge on debit card payments, online banks in the country are charging 14% surcharge to dispense cash.
