Automated clearing house BankservAfrica and ebpSource, a global billing and payment provider are rolling out South Africa’s first bank-based electronic billing and payment service.

The new service is being introduced to consumers through connected online banks.
BankservAfrica will manage the service on behalf of the South African commercial banks, with the support and domain expertise from ebpSource.
Martin Grunewald, CEO of BankservAfrica’s business process outsourcing unit said: "With a focus on massively improved bill delivery and payment efficiency BankservAfrica’s eBilling also offers compelling benefits to South Africa’s billing companies.
"As the service grows it will mean less paper, less printing, more efficient payments, less manual processing, better service and all-round more convenience for customers, banks and billers alike."
Steve Wright, executive vice president of commercial operations at ebpSource said: "BankservAfrica’s eBilling and payment service is the most advanced initiative of its kind in Africa at present and the team is extremely proud to be a part of such a ground-breaking new offering.
"Being heavily involved in such positive change projects at a countrywide level is something ebpSource specialises in."
Nedbank and a number of large billers are already live in the service.
Adriaan du Plessis, executive head of transactional banking at Nedbank said: "Despite this service being in the introductory phase, Nedbank as first-mover, has received positive feedback from the market.
"This service offers fully reconciled payments via the security of the bank’s channels, adding value to any business wishing to expand on the payment mechanisms that its customers and wanting to improve on its operational efficiencies," he added.
