British banking group Barclays has enhanced its mobile banking app by integrating Apple’s virtual assistant Siri, enabling customers to make payments with voice commands.
Barclays said that it is the first UK high street bank to launch the feature, which allows users to pay existing payees or mobile contacts without having to open the app or typing passwords.
Payments through Siri are authenticated with Apple’s TouchID fingerprint recognition. The Siri feature can be accessed by only those customers with an iOS device enabled with touch ID and using iOS 10+.
Commenting on the new development, Barclays head of customer experience and channels Raheel Ahmed said: “We recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the world’s first ATM, which was introduced to provide customers with 24/7 access to their money for the first time ever.
“The introduction of Siri payments to mobile banking customers is another step forward, giving flexibility and greater choice for all our customers.”
