British multinational bank Barclays has named Barry Rodrigues as the new CEO of its payment business Barclaycard International.

Based in New York, Rodrigues will join the Barclays International executive committee and report directly to Tim Throsby, president of Barclays International and CEO of Corporate and Investment Bank.

Prior to joining Barclays, Rodrigues worked for six years at Citi where he was most recently served as the head of digital payments for the Global Consumer Bank. He was responsible for the strategy, design and execution of next-generation payment solutions and platforms across both digital commerce and money transmission.

Before joining Citi, Rodrigues served more than 25 years at American Express ending his role as president of its Global Network business.

Throsby said: “Barry brings a wealth of experience, skill and industry knowhow to Barclays and we’re pleased to welcome him to the firm. He is a talented and innovative professional who is positioned well to lead our Barclaycard International businesses into the future.

“Barry will deliver leadership, value and execution for our colleagues and clients as Barclaycard continues to grow at this time of rapid and continual change in the cards and payments industries.”
